“I am fine now even if it took me a long time to get rid of this awful cough.
But you know how it is, it's difficult to complain when we know the situation
of the people here.
I have just returned from a mission into the north west, where the Zaraguinas (bandits)
are roaming, close to the border with Cameroon and Chad. MSF France has just opened a
therapeutic feeding center. A lot of children are HIV-infected and cannot be saved. It was
the same situation at the hospital in Bocaranga and Ngaoundaye, women lying on their beds for
ages, waiting for their death. It was hard, as usual. The International Rescue Committee, Caritas
and MSF do a tremendous work in that area and I have no doubt that UNICEF will support their
programmes on child protection, GBV and AIDS . It's more than urgent."
