Meeting with the AU
At a press conference earlier this month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the delegation called for an immediate cessation of violence in Sudan's Darfur region, along with full support for legitimate negotiations to build sustainable peace. Delegation members – including Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams and Kenyan activist Wangari Maathai – emphasized concern about the ongoing, systematic violence against women and children and the use of rape as a weapon of war.

The delegation sat down to meetings at African Union headquarters with high-ranking officials including Commissioner Jean Ping, Senior Political Advisor Nakaha Stanislas, and Commissioner for Peace and Security Ramteme Lamamra.The delegation heard calls for help: "We do not have sufficient means to sustain our troops...Everybody knows we need external assistance."
