US equipment arrives in Darfur to support peacekeeping operations.

A C-17 aircraft stacked with 150 tons of heavy equipment including trucks flew out of Travis Air Force Base in California to Germany, Djouutu and Kigali before landing in El Fasher, Darfur. It is the first of five airlifts to support the UN Peacekeeping operation attempting to quell the violence there. Peacekeepers have requested vehicles to transport troops, ambulances, better communications systems, maintenance supplies and water tanks. Their most persistant request has been for helicopters-but these have not been donated.
