"we cannot feed our babies" the mothers of Birao told me

Back in Bangui a French commander told me the attackers, who fled back into Sudan, would surely come again, "But not to Birao. They know we are there". But tragically, within four months, Birao was attacked again. A bloody battle resulted in near destruction of the town and many deaths.

Now the LRA has attacked the already traumatized people of Birao, looting, setting homes ablaze and abducting girls.

Since December 2008, the LRA has murdered 2,000 people, abducted more than 2,600 and displaced over 400,000.There have been at least six attacks in northeastern Congo in the past few weeks.
An estimated 268,000 remain displaced in northeastern DRC, over 120,000 in southern Sudan and 30,000 in the southeast of the Central African Republic.
